oldies but goodies

Study for Luke 8 (1998)
Digging through my piles of organized chaos in anticipation of both out-of-town visitors and my upcoming move, I’ve uncovered yet more sketchbooks, mostly filled with graphite studies for some of my larger painted works back in the 90’s.  There were a few that were positively cringe-worthy (especially my attempts at life drawing, which never was and likely never be a strong point of mine), but most turned out reasonably well given my limited resources at the time and lack of formal education in the arts.  These will eventually make their appearance here over the course of several installments.
Study for Luke 8, shown here, includes several of the preliminary studies for my first commission piece, Parable of the Sower, used as a Mass program cover.

  1. Isn't it fun going through old sketchbooks? This one is very nice – there is just something about the raw sketches of a study that is so beautiful. Can't wait to see more.
