studies in light: the (almost) complete failure

Sqiggle (2012)

Getting a new camera was supposed to make things easier…and it probably will, eventually.  In the meanwhile, I’m experimenting with the new iso controls and running into roadblocks.  I’d been hoping that I’d be able to capture some decent shots of the fireworks back on the 4th, but alas it was not to be.
Problem A: While I used to have a clear view of the horizon from our house–perfect for shots like this–the trees have long since grown up and obscured much of the view.
Problem B: Trying to work with unfamiliar controls in the pitch-dark.
The result was not a lovely image of fireworks patterns in the sky, but an odd-looking squiggle of light.  Sigh. Maybe next year…?
