A Few Cards Short (2011)
I’ve been designing my mother’s costumes for her school’s Halloween Masque for several years, and we’ve come up with some good ones…even if a few took near-miracles to accomplish: Sister Act, Literary Witches, Fruit of the Loom, The (literal) Spice Girls, Billy the Exterminator…just to name a few.  Sadly, she retired in June and so this will probably be my last post of crazy costumes.  The theme for 2011 was ‘A Few Cards Short of a Deck’ with each faculty member dressing as a different life-size playing card.  True to form, Mom was The Joker.  And keeping with the familial theme, I patterned her card off one of the old French-style decks, signing the design with a gold-leaf miniature of the Hebert Patent.  Truly a masterpiece for my costume collection…
