Today’s Flower of the Day is a Carolina Rose, which grows wild in our area. I’ve always loved them, and last year I broke down and ordered one from a nursery on the other side of the state that deals exclusively in native plants. It was supposed to be 3-day delivery but the postal service lost the poor thing for nearly two weeks; it looked to be dead for sure when it got here. I planted it anyway, and for a whole year it looked like it was doing absolutely nothing. But lo and behold, this spring I have new green shoots and tiny leaves! I can’t wait for it to mature enough to start blooming. In the meantime, we’ll just enjoy this one from the arboretum…
